Updates to Program Deadlines & Deposit Structure

In an effort to help set student expectations and increase consistency across programs, we’ve implemented a few changes related to program deadlines and our deposit structure, which you’ll now see reflected on our website in numerous places!

Here’s an example screenshot from the dates and prices section of a program page.

Deadlines

We have broken down deadlines into three dates:

  • Application Closes: This is the last day that a student can start an application. This will always be a Monday.
    • If a student reaches out after this deadline wanting to apply to a CIS Abroad program, our advising team can open the application for a few hours for them to apply, as long as they meet the GPA requirement and understand the upcoming deadlines. If you require this, please have your student contact our advising team either by texting 877-617-9090 or by using the chat feature located at the bottom right corner of our website.
  • Forms & Program Deposit Deadline: This is the last day to complete application pieces and pay the non-refundable program deposit. This will always be the Friday after the application closes.
    • NEW! We have implemented the following non-refundable deposits across all programs:
      • $300 for all short-term programs (January, Maymester, Summer - excluding Intern Programs)
      • $500 for all Semester/Year-Long & All Intern Programs (short term or semester) except Veterinary Science Semester in Thailand which has a $3,000 program confirmation deposit.
      • CIS Abroad’s full refund policy can be reviewed here.
  • Final Payment Deadline: No changes here, but we are listing it out on our website so it’s even more clear!

Deadline information can also be found on our application deadlines page.

Important for Direct Bill Partners: If you have a previous direct billing arrangement with CIS Abroad to pay all costs associated with programs, including deposits, please note that CIS Abroad will invoice you for our non-refundable program confirmation deposits if the student confirms their spot on their program, and later withdraws their application after the “Forms & Program Deposit Deadline” has passed.

As a reminder, last summer we implemented an additional step in our application portal where students are required to confirm their program acceptance. They sign that they are aware they are responsible for the non-refundable program deposit even if they are not paying it immediately due to a direct billing arrangement with their home institution. This means we can provide you with a timestamp of when your student accepted the terms that indicate they confirm their understanding of our refund policy, and will be responsible for our nonrefundable deposit. Below is a screenshot of what they see in their application:
