Study + Intern vs Intern Programs - What's the Difference?

Are you interested in a study + intern or internship program but need help navigating the options? Don’t worry, we are here to help! Continue reading to find out more information on the difference between the two program types and how it works!

Study + Intern Programs 

Study + Intern abroad programs allow you to not only take courses at the overseas universities but also intern with a local organization. The internship will serve as one of your courses. Further your academic career while gaining international work experience and boosting your resume! You can earn credit for the courses you take as well as the internship. Connect with your home university for further information on how the credit will transfer back.

How does it work?

You can find the course offerings and internship placements on the program page under the Internship and Academics tabs. Once your application is submitted, you’ll get access to your CIS Abroad Participant Portal where you can continue working on your application as well as get introduced to your Program Enrollment Coordinator.  You’ll work with your Program Enrollment Coordinator to discuss your interests and various skill sets and from there, they’ll work to pair you with an organization that meets your needs! 

Internship Programs

Internship abroad programs allow you to work with a local organization while gaining international experience, enhancing your personal and professional skills and boosting your resume!

How does it work?

On the program page under Internship Placements is where you can find the various fields offered in that location. Once your application is submitted, you’ll get access to your CIS Abroad Participant Portal where you can continue working on your application as well as get introduced to your Program Enrollment Coordinator. You’ll work with your Program Enrollment Coordinator to discuss your interests and various skill sets and from there, they’ll work to pair you with an organization that meets your needs! During your program you will be focused solely on the internship experience and will not be taking any additional course work which means that this option tends to be more affordable because you aren’t paying tuition. Your program fee covers your individualized placement, housing, onsite support, excursions, activities, and more. You can do the internship for credit too- learn more here!
