My name is Kali Daniels. I'm a Spanish and Business major at Western Kentucky University. I spent a semester in Costa Rica. I chose CIS Abroad because of the numerous location options offered.
This has been the first full weekend we have been able to stay home and see the city of San José, and it did not disappoint. My Rica roomies and I decided to spend Friday at the Parque del Este, which is a short 25-minute drive from our house. Madison and I went on a run while Amy decided to relax and sketch. The run was quite a bit steeper than we first thought but it was worth seeing the flora and fauna. I don't know how much running we actually did since we stopped so many times for pics though lol. We noticed a number of tiny houses painted beautifully and had to stop to get a few pics of those as well!

On Saturday, Lizzie, Natalie, and I went to get our nails done since we would be going to the National Theatre of Costa Rica that night! We had a lovely girls' day of nail salons, Thai food, and shopping! We even discovered this little coffee shop called Libertario in Escalante that had some of the best coffee I have ever tried. The coffee beans were locally sourced from Volcán Poas about an hour away from the café.

Once we made it back, we got ready for the Mozart/ Gershwin Concerto. I was a tad nervous about if I would like it or not, but that was obviously an unfound fear because I LOVED it. The music was so emotional, and we later found out the first-chair violinist was the first female first-chair to play in the theatre in Costa Rica. That is monumental! After the amazing performance, we went to get boba tea to end the night on a sweet note.

Sunday was just as busy with an early morning yoga class at a resort with my Tico family! It was my first yoga class, and my lack of coordination completely gave me away but it was fun all the same.

Afterward, we walked around the fruit garden and were able to pick any fruit we wanted to try for free. I tried so many new fruits like lychee, these popping seeds, and Brazilian cherries (those were my favorite). We ended the weekend with a relaxing afternoon nap in a hammock at home. It's the best way to end a crazy weekend full of new activities and food. ¡Ciao!
