Why You Should Get Vaccinated Before Going Abroad

Since the Fall 2020, CIS Abroad has continued to send students abroad safely and successfully. Has it been easy? Not always. We've learned a lot by sending students abroad during the pandemic, and we think the benefits of getting the Covid 19 Vaccine before going abroad are worth it.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention agree that the COVID-19 vaccine helps reduce the risk of serious illness and helps prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Being vaccinated can help you avoid:

#1 Decreased access to traveling.

You may not be able to get into the country where your program is located or travel to all the other beautiful countries where you want to go. For example, if you want to travel to the UK to study or go on that lifetime dream of a Harry Potter tour, you must show proof of vaccination.

#2 Spreading disease in the community.

You could spread COVID-19 to onsite staff, their kids, other students, or the local communities you want to get to know.

#3 FOMO.

Potentially jeopardizing thing on the bucket list you've been creating since you applied? Another thing to consider if you're unvaccinated. You'll face restrictions that won't allow you to enter museums, parks, restaurants, and more. In addition, if you're exposed or some in close contact with someone who tests positive, you may also have to quarantine.

#4 Getting sick enough your family has to come get you.

You might get sick and seriously ill. Consequently, your family will be very concerned and drop their lives to fly over to you. This could be very stressful and costly, and you'll miss out on studying and exploring your new home with friends.

#5 Getting off track with your degree.

You may miss classes due to illness or testing positive and having to quarantine/isolate. As a result, your academic career may be put in jeopardy.

BONUS: It's required for all CIS Abroad Programs

If you've made it this far into the blog, chances are you'd like to go abroad with us. Starting in January 2022, Covid vaccines will be required for participation in CIS Abroad programs.
